The Model Music Series

We are delighted to partner with The Model in Sligo to curate a series of four live gigs to take place in different spaces within The Model over summer/autumn 2018.

I Am The Cosmos & Somadrone

Saturday 19 May, 8pm, The Model, Sligo / €8/6

I am the Cosmos are an electronic duo comprised of Ross Turner and Cian Murphy. Winners of the Choice Music Award Song of the Year in 2013, they have steadily built a reputation for propulsive dance beats seeped in a distinct analogue sound. 2017 saw the pair collaborate with AFB to release their third record, a four-track EP entitled Nothing But Love. Infamous for their rare live performances, their appearance at The Model will offer a tasty warm-up ahead of a Body & Soul outing.

Producer Somadrone has been making electronic music since 1997. His is also a member of The Redneck Manifesto and Jape. Compared to the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Sylvian and Brian Eno, a typical Somadrone production incorporates analogue drum machines, synthesizers, guitar and vocals that results in cross pollinating, genre-less, electronic soundscapes.

Woven Skull playing live

Woven Skull & Fuzzy Hell

Saturday 28 July, 9pm, The Model, Sligo

In 2008, the core trio that make up Woven Skull began gathering together in the home of two of the members, set deep in the bogs and forests of County Leitrim. Several years experimenting with combinations of instrumentation, kitchen utensils, seashells, footsteps, chimes, recordings of cats purring and frogs mating led to their current sound which combines densely propulsive guitar, distorted mandola and endless cyclical rhythms. Woven Skull strip and scrape what they can out of minimal instrumentation to teeter on the brink of total sonic meltdown creating engulfing, raw primal drones and damaged rock manoeuvres; the result of which has often been described as the traditional music of a self-imagined land.
